I believe in inclusive pedagogy that fosters confidence, creates connection, and leads to independence. I value mistakes, they are milestones of progress and proof of developing real understanding. Discover my personal journey below.
A Bit About Me
early years
Born in Norwich, UK, I moved to France age 5. I had to adapt quickly. I couldn’t speak French, other than hello, goodbye, please and thank you. It was overwhelming: successful communication, mental gymnastics, different social cues and codes. I went from thinking that “Vas-y” was my nickname when playing football, to that Eureka moment of “they want me to shoot and score”! Mistakes are so important: an opportunity to learn, emotions are felt and memories are created.

Back to England
Age 11 back to the UK with my Frenchness, I missed France a lot but as a child I didn’t necessarily understand this feeling. But what I did understand is that Modern Foreign Languages were already shaping my school and career choices. So, I continued to study French and Spanish through to university level: Bachelor of Arts in French with Spanish at Bangor University and a subsequent Master of Arts in Translation studies specialising in French.
2019 back to France as young adult. It’s time to choose a career path. I began my teaching training in Lyon with the CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults). So, at the start of my career I only taught professional adults, and adults in further education. Taking advantage of different opportunities, I taught and traveled around France: Limoges, Soisson, Reims, before settling for some time in Strasbourg “I love a good choucroute, and what about a flammekueche”?
Back to France
a change of perspective
A new chapter begins; I decided that I wanted to broaden my pedagogical knowledge and the audience scope to whom I could teach. So, in 2022 I completed the PGCE in Modern Foreign Languages at University College London in French with Spanish. After this rollercoaster of a university degree, I began to teach children in different environments: public school, private schools, international schools and extracurricular language workshops.
Now and the future
A step away from traditional learning environments. In 2025 I realised that I was able to stand on my own two feet and offer language learning experiences as a freelance language teacher. I have now been an independent teacher since March 2025 catering to the various English language needs of children 3-18, professional adults and retired seniors.
Let’s do it!
“Vas-y”, I look forward to accompanying you in your language project, let go and let your English grow, speak soon,
Jacob.
